Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, the curator of one of theoriginal dubstep labels, Hotflush Recordings, which released some of the most important tracks of the genre’s formative period and has grown into a leading player in the wider world of electronic music.

Originally from London, Scuba relocated to Berlin in 2007, a move which (according to some) influenced his critically acclaimed debut album, A Mutual Antipathy (2008). The stylistic synergy of the album cemented his position as one of the most forward-thinking dubstep producers. The project was subsequently completed with a series of remixes by Surgeon, Substance, Jamie Vex’d, Martyn, Marcel Dettmann and the artist himself under his SCB guise.

His second album, Triangulation, was released on Hotflush in March 2010 to universal plaudits, with many reviewers immediately tipping it as a potential album of the year. An amalgamation of disparate styles, from house to experimental drum n bass, the album has been noted as a landmark in the genre-blurring trend of contemporary dance music.

Between album sessions he has been busy remixing artists including Booka Shade, Fever Ray and Will Saul, and developing the SCB project which focuses squarely on house and techno.

In addition to A&R and production duties, he also runs the massively successful SUB:STANCE night at the legendary Berlin club Berghain, the sound of which he committed to plastic in a DJ mix released on Ostgut Ton in January 2010.

Multiverse boss Ginz, James Ginzburg, has been producing records since he was 13 and DJing for the last Decade. Having toured the world under Various Aliases, his productions have been unavoidable both on the dance-floor and off it, particularly recently having co-written last years biggest dubstep anthem, “Purple City”, with Joker and co-written the seminal dubstep track “War Dub” with Pinch under the name P. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dean J. Grenier A.K.A DJG landed in the world of Dubstep in 2007 with his first 12″ “Shadow Skanking” b/w “Joyful Sound” on Narco.Hz. Immediate support on Rinse FM and in the clubs from DJ’s like N-Type propelled DJG to the forefront of American dubstep producers early in his career. High-profile releases continued in 2008 with his track “Lower 8″ released on Tes La Rok’s Noppa label, and with his track “Bender”s selection as Pressing Issues 002 by the populace on dubstepforum.com. In total, DJG had 5 releases in his first year as a dubstep producer.

DJG’s production style is richly melodic, emotive while full of groove and energy. Recognized early on for a more dubwise sound, DJG’s recent productions have revealed an evolution in his music, getting deeper into bass-heavy, tech-drenched, soulful tracks like the much-anticipated February ‘09 release “Bunker” b/w “Apophenia” on Tube10 and the forthcoming “The Gate” b/w “Obsessed” on Lo Dubs. DJs ranging from Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Joe Nice, Pinch, Headhunter, Skream, RSD, 2562, Djunya, Random Trio and many more have been supporting DJG’s recent and forthcoming releases on labels Narco.Hz, Subway Recordings, Tube10, Lo Dubs, Pushing Red, Blipswitch and Pure Filth amongst others.

When DJG gets behind the decks, his passion for the music he plays is obvious. His enthusiasm for the deeper side of dubstep and his affection for dance floor selections makes each set a spontaneous combination of the highs and lows that the sound has to offer.

RICHARD DEVINE

Richard Devine is one of the most talented (if not prolific) of the producers organized around the Miami neo-electro haven of Schematic Records. Based in Atlanta, Devine’s productions have the rigid breakbeat swing of prime electro recordings, but also a high degree of DSP (digital signal processing) magic in keeping with Schematic’s acknowledged heroes, Autechre. After EPs for a sublabel of Woody McBride’s Drop Bass Network and the Devine EP on Schematic, the producer began getting a reputation in advanced electronics circles with remixes (of material by Aphex Twin, Chris Deluca, Slicker, and Schematic’s own Phoenecia) as well as compilation appearances (Ischemic Folks and Lily of the Valley, both on Schematic). Turned on to Devine’s work by praise from Autechre and his remix of Aphex Twin’s “Come to Daddy,” Britain’s Warp Records hired him in 2000 to record a full-length. The results, Lipswitch, were jointly released one year later by Schematic and Warp.
